Applying For Your Firearm / Shotgun License

Anyone can apply for a shotgun license as there are no restrictions other than criminal records to prevent ownership. A shotgun can be used for recreational shooting such as clay pigeon shooting or for pest control such as pigeons, corvids, rabbits and foxes. For a firearms license you must show just cause for firearm ownership such as control of vermin (rabbits, foxes etc.), for deer management or of course for target shooting at your local club.

The applicant needs to have a secure approved gun cabinet secured to the fabric of the building and preferably hidden from public view. Cabinets can be in a garage as long as the garage is attached to the property and that access can be gain from the property directly in into the garage.

Now You Have Your License

Upon receiving your crisp new license you will want to put a gun or two on to it. Upon doing so you will need to notify the Firearms department that you have done so, at The Country Sports Shop we complete a transfer form (see below) for you and you will need to send it away (we provide an addressed envelope) recorded delivery to notify Firearms that you have acquired a firearm or shotgun within seven days. You also need to notify them if you have disposed of a firearm or shotgun (again if we take a gun in P/X or buy one we will complete a form for you). If you buy a gun or are given a gun from another certificate holder (the gun MUST be on a certificate) then you still need to notify Firearms about the transaction, both the seller and the buyer on separate forms. We have included a copy of D&C Firearms department form for you to download below.
